Brave Beyond Borders

I grew up as a quiet child

on a small island

in the middle of the Indian Ocean. 

For some, it is a tiny dot on the map, 

To me, it revealed a vast horizon.

​​

At the turn of the century,

I left my island behind 

and set sail for Europe.

There were neither blockades, 

nor pirates on the way.

Only a deep storm inside

after leaving my roots behind.

​I crossed many borders since then. 

I called many people a friend.

Each one sculpted my identity.

Each one said “join my community”.

And then, I arrived in Vienna. 

right before the world came to a halt.

There was no friend in sight. 

All were locked inside.

And so I made my own community. 

 

In my next chapter,

I am travelling again to

the global south - where I belong. 

I will build bridges for sustainable innovation

between Europe and Africa,

the two continents that shaped me.

 

I will remain a career catalyst.

With a seabird´s view,

​I see a vast ocean of talent,

with patterns where others see distance,

with connections where others see divides,

with ecosystems where others see silos.

I see a sea of opportunity

across human and machine.

I know that technology can 

stretch the limits of our potential,

speed scientific discovery, and 

solve sustainability challenges.

While I tinker with tech, 

I will protect something even more essential: 

my creative power.

Now it´s your turn.

So today, I invite each of you to do the same.

You need to build, nurture, and fiercely protect

your own creative cave.
